What is The Option Profile?
Options do not spread evenly: activity concentrates on a few strikes, and those strikes become reference points because market makers have to hedge around them. The Option Profile puts that distribution next to price, like a volume profile but built on options activity rather than futures transactions.
What DeepCharts does better
Two calculation modes, and the difference matters. In Volume mode you see the raw concentration of contracts at each strike. In Gamma Volume mode the volume is multiplied by gamma, which DeepCharts says gives a more accurate picture of actual dealer exposure at each strike. The display is two-sided: green bars on the left for calls, purple bars on the right for puts, with the largest concentrations highlighted.
Using it day to day
The decisive setting is expiration filtering, which ranges from 0DTE to all expirations. Looking at 0DTE alone or at everything does not describe the same day. A second toggle includes or excludes carry-over open interest. The rest is presentation: profile width and offset, number of sessions displayed, five by default, solid or hollow bars, opacity.
Typical case on the ES: the largest green bar sits two hundred points above price. That is the call wall, where DeepCharts notes price may face selling pressure. Below, the largest purple bar marks the put wall, where price may find buying support. You do not trade those lines: you simply know the session has a probable ceiling and floor, and you size your targets accordingly.
⚠ The trap to avoid
The trap is reading the profile as a prediction. A concentration of calls at a strike obliges nobody to sell: it indicates where dealer hedging is likely to weigh, not where price will go. The second trap is leaving the expiry filter on all and wondering why the walls never move: the day's activity lives in the short expiries.
Combine it with
The Option Profile gives you the map, the GEX Profile gives you the sign. Knowing where the walls are without knowing whether dealer gamma is positive or negative leaves you halfway: above the flip a wall slows price, below it the wall gets cut through. And the trigger stays order flow: absorption holding at the call wall is worth an entry, the call wall alone is worth none.
FAQ
What is the difference between Volume mode and Gamma Volume mode?+
Volume mode shows the raw concentration of contracts at each strike. Gamma Volume mode multiplies that volume by gamma, which DeepCharts says gives a more accurate picture of actual dealer exposure strike by strike.
What are the call wall and the put wall?+
The call wall is the strike with the heaviest call concentration, the largest green bar, where price may face selling pressure. The put wall is its mirror on the put side, in purple, where price may find buying support.
Should I filter on 0DTE?+
It depends on your horizon. The filter ranges from 0DTE to all expirations: same-day options describe the current session, the full set describes underlying positioning. Mixing the two without realizing it is the most common source of error.
