FDAX: order flow on Eurex
Module 04 · 4 · Footprint and delta on the FDAXLesson 16 of 359 min🔒 Students only
Reading delta on a thinner market
Fewer trades, larger clips
Delta measures the difference between volume executed at the offer (buy aggression) and volume executed at the bid (sell aggression). On the NQ, it is fed by thousands of trades per minute, mostly of one to three contracts. On the FDAX, trades are fewer and clips larger: a single 80 contract market order, common on the DAX, weighs in the bar's delta as much as eighty scalpers on the Nasdaq.
Two consequences:
- DAX delta is choppier. It jumps, it does not slope. A bar delta going from +40 to −210 in one trade is not a market reversal, it is a participant who just executed. You read delta over several bars, never one.
- Divergences are rarer and more meaningful. A price making a new high without the CVD following, on the DAX, means a handful of large buy clips was fully absorbed. It is less frequent than on the NQ, and when it happens, there is someone on the other side.
