Options flow and GEX: reading SPX context to trade ES and NQ

Module 03 · 3 · GEX and the gamma flipLesson 9 of 3110 min🔒 Students only

Reading a GEX Profile strike by strike

The tool

The GEX Profile stacks the market makers' estimated gamma exposure, strike by strike, as horizontal bars along the price ladder. Bars on one side for positive gamma, on the other for negative. At a glance, you see where the hedging flow is concentrated and where it changes sign.

The settings that change everything

Two filters decide what you see, and almost everyone leaves them set wrong:

  • Expiration. On all expirations combined, the walls are stable, sometimes for weeks: that is the background structure. On 0DTE alone, the profile changes hour by hour: that is the day's fight. You need both, in two windows, not a blend.
  • Open interest or volume. Open interest reflects positions in place (the stock); the day's volume reflects what is trading (the flow). Before the open, look at open interest. During the session, 0DTE volume tells you where the game is moving.
